Oil Paintings

These were completed for a solo show following a year of self-instruction in oil painting, painting being something experienced in high school art class using acrylics but not significantly. They are a balance of spontaneous and realistic styles, which prevented frustration with extended periods of realistic attempts.

The Day I Met Elvis on Westminster Bridge

A real-life encounter with an Elvis impersonator in London became an impetus to learn how to oil paint, as the experience seemed to call for a grander representation than just a snapshot. Winter late 2001.

Self-Portrait in Scotland

Painted from a photograph taken with a large clump of sheep's wool on my head, found along the side of this remote single-lane rode, which went well with the sheep in the background. Winter late 2001.

Based on a photograph taken in Paris which wasn't meant to be of this couple, who weren't noticed until the film was developed. Winter late 2001.
